On July 6, 2018 I attended the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet Illinois “Race Your Ride”. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Nick McGrath and company from Straightline Performance. Absolutely gorgeous night for racing. The weather was perfect, the pits were full, and the there was plenty of non-stop racing action.
Unfortunately, the staging lanes were extremely crowded. This was the final “Race Your Ride” before the “NMRA/NMCA Superbowl of Drag Racing” which takes place on July 27, 28, and 29. Many drivers brought their cars out for a last chance to get some racing in and fine-tune their race cars for the end-of-the-month event.
Everything from streetcars, door slammers, rail jobs, and even a jet car (barely visible in front of the Charcoal Ford Mustang) showed to make a few runs down the track.
Nick McGrath was only able to get 2 runs down the track due to the popularity of the evening. The above pics show the staging lanes of what was ahead of us. The below pic shows how many cars were behind us waiting to make a pass.
And of course, whats a test & tune without at least a video of what we waited to see:
Great pass Nick McGrath at Straightline Performance!
