Wondering where the airbag sensor is located, is there one or two sensors? I have the airbag fault light lit up. Im not sure if the previous owner disconnected the seatbelt connectors or airbag module while the battery was still connected. Wondering what to do to clear the fault…

    1. More than likely one or both of the front seats were removed, which will set off the Airbag Fault light. There is a quick connect under both the front driver and passenger seat that is tied into the Air Bag system. You can use “VZ Clustermod” to reset and turn off the light. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this site to start your a legend.Rly trying to find a complete vacuum hose diagram for my 04 I got a vacuum his coming from behind my back seat and two lines coming from my firewall one with a check valve wich is connected but the other one is not and can’t find a male connection for it. Any help is greatly appreciated. And is there a way to get the alternator off without dropping subframe?

    1. Hi Ray and thanks for the questions.

Best advice I can give on the vacuum hoses is to download the service manual found here.

As far as the alternator removal, I never heard of anyone dropping the subframe to remove the alternator. Should be able to bring it up from under the hood after removing some things in the way. Power steering resevoir and power steering pump, possibly the air box as well if you have one. Radiator shroud as well. Would be easier to just to unbolt anything in the way then trying to drop the engine subframe. There are few videos on YouTube showing how to pull the alternator from under the hood. Not hard, just time consuming.

    Hey Mark,
Do you know if the 05 and 06 abs modules are Interchangeable? My abs light comes on intermittently, and my traction control is always off. Code reader says all four abs sensors are bad, so I figured I would change out the module. Turns out the guy who owned my 04 before me put in an 05 or 06 module. I don’t want to spend anymore money before on the problem until I figure out exactly what I need.

According to GM Parts Online, there are 2 different part numbers for the ABS module which controls the brakes and traction control for 2004 and 2005/2006 model years. There are also 2 different part numbers for the ABS Module Valve/Pump for 2004 and 2005/2006 model years. This could very easily be the problem. Also, as far as the traction control never turning on, I have had this happen to me as well, and it wound up being a faulty Mass Air Flow sensor. But seeing your ABS light is also coming on, I would have to guess you are probably on the right path of the module being the wrong one, causing the light to come on. Here is the link I used for the part numbers:

Hello Mark, I’m ready to replace the struts mounts but my mechanic suggested changing the struts too. What suggestions do you have for front and rear struts for my 05? Thanks Mark

    1. Hello and thank you for your question. The best performance for your dollars would be to replace the factory suspension with a coil over kit. Maverick Man offers a kit which includes both front and rear coil overs which can be found here: https://www.maverickmancarbon.com/collections/frontpage/products/maverick-man-coilovers-for-04-06-gtos

Completely adjustable and give you the option to lower or raise the car, making room for almost any tire and wheel set up in your future. If you are happy with the stock suspension you can always go to your local auto parts store and purchase KYB struts and shocks, but then you will also need to purchase new springs and cost wise this will put you at spending more money for stock suspension then buying a performance coil over kit.

And lastly there are different high performance coil over kits available, such as the BC series coil over kits which can be found here:
      http://www.kollarracingproducts.com/bc-er-racing-front-and-rear-coil-overs-gto/

Personally i would just get a coil over kit. Always install new strut mounts when replacing the fronts, and its not a bad idea to replace the spring pads in the rear as the stock ones tend to get dry and deteriorate.

Thanks again for the question, and I hope this helps to point you in the right direction.

  5. Bryce - Low Coolant Light Question

Hey I have a low coolant sign on my cluster that won’t go away and the coolant is completely full with no air in lines I know this because I have filled the car correctly with the gto manual. Any ideas???

    1. Hi there and thank you for visiting.

More than likely it is one of these two things.

      1) Just a “hiccup” in the system. The PCM is not reading the coolant level is full. Disconnect the wiring harness from the coolant reservoir sensor. Make sure it is clean, re-connect it making sure it snaps/clicks in place, see what happens. I doubt this will be the case, because if you just disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor, it should turn the warning light off.

      2) Low coolant sensor in the reservoir tank is sticking. The low coolant level sensor unfortunately is built into the coolant reservoir tank. Only way to replace it is to replace the reservoir tank. Even though you can’t replace it, you can clean it. So, remove the reservoir (after draining it of course), clean it out really well (its ok you use a little dish soap), rinse it out really well, put back on the car, see what happens.

My guess is Number 2 will fix the problem. These cars are pushing 12-14 years old. If the coolant system has never been flushed or cleaned before, it is probably time. I’m sure the coolant reservoir has some unwanted gunk, dirt and grime in it, which could very possibly give a false low coolant reading.

If all of this fails, you can always just dis-connect the wiring harness from the coolant reservoir sensor to turn the light off. The after market reservoirs don’t even come with a low coolant sensor, so you would just leave this dis-connected anyways.

      Hope this helps.
