Air Filter

The air filter is often an overlooked part. A dirty and clogged air filter can cause more damage than you think. Insufficient flow of air to the intake means that the engine has to work harder. Excessive heat is an engine killer. Also, the air filter allows clean air to enter the intake so the engine can burn a good mixture of air and gasoline. Dirt in the intake can damage engine parts such as cylinder heads and pistons. According to the service manual, the air filter on the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO should be replaced every 25,000 miles.

On the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO you have 2 choices:

  1. Replace the factory air filter every 25,000 or less
  2. Upgrade to a Cold Air Intake (CAI) system which has much better filters and lasts much longer than 25,000 miles

K&N Air Filters claim they can go as much as 100,000 miles on the street before service is needed. AEM Brute Force CAI claims they can go 100,000 miles before cleaning is required. Below I have listed some CAI options for the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO. Visit the websites and decide for yourself which setup will work best for you.

NOTE: 2004 Pontiac GTO has different part numbers than 2005-2006 Pontiac GTO. Choose the correct year when purchasing.

CAI – Cold Air Intake

OTRCAI – Over The Radiator Cold Air Intake

There are also Over The Radiator Cold Air Induction (OTRCAI) available. This style CAI is more expensive but sits over the radiator sucking in fresh cold air, rather than the traditional style which is tucked in behind the driver’s side headlight, which traps more heat. 1. I do not actually sell air filters. The article is to merely point you in the right direction and which air filter to use and where to purchase them. If you follow the links in the article, it will show you where you can go to purchase these items. Sorry for the confusion.
